Performance Factors
Motivation = Priority / Interests (Richard and Deci, 2000)
IQ competencies are needed mainly as treshold competencies - even though system thinking and pattern recognition lead to superior performance. Most of the behavioural competencies leading to superior performance are EI competencies. (Boyatzis, 2009)
Performance is influenced by system factors such as trends in community, government decisions and organizational internal and external environment. (Armstrong, 2009)
Emotional Intelligence leads unto superior performance, especially within executive roles. (Goleman, 1995, 1998)
Different moods can be utilised for different kinds of behaviour (bringing different physiological and cognitive response) and therefore can be intelligently utilized for maximizing performance of an individual or a team. (Yale, 2014)
Cultural Intelligence is important within multicultural environment - but EI overlaps with cultural intelligence in many aspects. (Moon, 2010)
Social Intelligence grows collaboration and leads to process of renewal. (Goleman, 2007)
Performance = ability x motivation x opportunity to participate. (Boxall and Purcel, 2003)
High performance culture requires motivated and skillful employees, who receive organisational support, and who are given an opportunity to participate in the decision-making process. (Armstrong, 2009)
Performance = individual attributes x work effort x organisational support. (Blumberg and Pringle, 1982)
Performance = function of ability and motivation. (Vroom, 1964)

Positive Intelligence = ratio of your mind being your friend (constructive thoughts and feelings) / your mind is your enemy (destructive thoughts and feelings). (Chamise, 2012)

‘Human doings’ versus ‘Human beings’ – Mighty Change in Perspective on Performance Management
During the past hundred years, PM has undergone a significant development which came mainly about because of improved understanding of human behavior through breakthroughs in neuroscience and social sciences. Perhaps one of the most criticized aspects of the last century PM systems is the fact that human resources were often viewed as ‘robot’ like means – frequently being marked as ‘human doings’ instead of ‘human beings’.
Though nobody can deny the benefits that the scientific management, and the developments of IQ like performance prediction measurements, brought to our global society, it should also be recognised that those benefits did not come without a price and limitations. During the 1980s, organizations discovered that PM systems provide limited value regarding increasing performance, understanding that people are social beings and that their ability to be productive, creative and innovative does not only depend on their IQ like abilities, but also on their social and emotional intelligence (Goleman, 1995).
